Why shouldnt you sleep on your left side?

There is no general rule that you are “not allowed” to sleep on your left side. For many people it is perfectly fine, and sometimes it is even the more comfortable option. In certain situations, sleeping on the right or left side may be better.

With acid reflux or heartburn, sleeping on the left side is often recommended because the position of the stomach and esophagus can reduce backflow. With some heart or lung issues, one side may feel uncomfortable, and during pregnancy the left side is commonly suggested to support circulation.

What matters most is your comfort, breathing, and reducing pressure on your shoulder and hip. The right pillow height and, if you like, a silk pillowcase can improve comfort further. If a position worsens pain, tingling, shortness of breath, or reflux, adjust your sleeping position and speak to a doctor if symptoms persist.
